Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Jarrad Branthwaite, but the latest developments suggest these terms may be “meaningless”.

According to iNews, Everton are confident that United will not be able to meet their asking price for the 21-year-old defender. The Red Devils recently submitted a bid of £35 million plus £8 million in add-ons for the young centre-back, which was promptly rejected by Everton.

United have since been waiting for a signal from Everton indicating a willingness to lower their current £80 million asking price. However, iNews reports there is “no chance” Everton will reduce their demand. Meanwhile, United are adamant they will not overpay for Branthwaite.

Although United reportedly agreed personal terms with Branthwaite, a dealmaker has described this agreement as “meaningless” in the absence of an agreement between the clubs.

Branthwaite, who has three years left on his contract, remains “committed to Everton”. The Toffees believe their young talent is as valuable as Harry Maguire, for whom United paid £80 million to Leicester City five years ago.

With United’s reluctance to meet Everton’s valuation and the Toffees standing firm on their price, it appears the transfer saga may conclude with Branthwaite staying at Merseyside.
