Arsenal news: Lacazette breaks deadlock, bukayo saka injured!

Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United.

Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock following a superb flowing move from the Gunners in the 33rd minute, before Gabriel Martinelli got on the scoresheet after the break.

Lacazette completed his brace five minutes from time with a clinical finish past Aaron Ramsdale.

It was Arsenal’s first Premier League win in three games following a draw to West Ham and defeat to Liverpool.

The result also kept alive Arsenal’s slim hopes of qualifying for European football next season as they remain seven points behind sixth-placed Liverpool.

The Gunners’ victory came at a cost, though, as Bukayo Saka appeared to suffer a fresh injury blow.

The England winger was replaced by Willian in the 69th minute and had an ice pack on his thigh when he took his place on the bench.

Saka had only just recently recovered from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of England’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers last month.

Saka could not continue and limped off

Mikel Arteta will hope Saka’s latest setback is nothing too serious with David Luiz, Martin Odegaard, Kieran Tierney and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently sidelined.

Paul Heckingbottom remains winless since becoming Sheffield United interim boss last month with the Blades set to return to the Championship.

Arsenal scored a brilliant team goal when Lacazette passed to Saka on the edge of the box as the teenager played the ball to Dani Ceballos, whose clever flick found the Frenchman for the opener.

With the Blades failing to lay a glove on Arsenal, Arteta’s men doubled their lead through Martinelli in the 71st minute.

Martinelli scored his first goal of the season

Nicolas Pepe had a shot saved by Aaron Ramsdale, who could only parry the ball into the path of the 19-year-old.

Martinelli, who was given a rare start due to Aubameyang’s illness, scored for the first time in 15 months when he netted against Chelsea.

And the Gunners made it 3-0 when Lacazette latched on to Thomas Partey’s through ball to register his 15th goal in 37 appearances this season.
