Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer.
The Liverpool midfielder, who is yet to sign a new deal at Anfield, will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Wijnaldum, 30, has helped Liverpool win the Premier League title and Champions League trophy and remains an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He has started 27 of the Reds’ 29 Premier League matches this season as they look set to surrender their top-flight crown to Manchester City and fight it out for a top-four spot.
Marca claim Barcelona are in talks with Wijnaldum over a summer move, but the LaLiga giants will face competition from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Juventus.
The Blues, who are currently occupying the final Champions League spot in the Premier League, are well stocked in midfield with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour.
However, the opportunity to bring in an experienced Premier League player in Wijnaldum could prove too hard to turn down for Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
Wijnaldum, who has made 226 appearances for Liverpool since joining for £25million from Newcastle in 2016, admitted he would be ‘devastated’ to leave Anfield.
“The only thing I can say is that I am really happy at the club, really happy with the team and the staff and really happy with the fans for whom I play,” the Netherlands international said last month.
“It is not that I am not happy and I have to leave but it is not that easy as everyone thinks it is to make some decisions for your future.
“First you have to negotiate with the club and it is so difficult to deal with all kind of things and that is why it takes so long and also, the situation we are in, it is not the most important thing right now.
“The most important thing is to get back on track and winning games again and then we will see. I am really happy here and my family is happy here but there is no news.
“But I would be devastated [if] I didn’t play with this team any more, that’s for sure.”
