Why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dropped our of the Arsenal ‘s Tottenham game

Mikel Arteta refused to divulge any information on the ‘disciplinary issue’ that kept Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of Arsenal’s starting XI to face Tottenham.

Aubameyang was a surprise omission from the Gunners team, with Arteta citing the said disciplinary issue as the reason.

The Gunners boss told Sky Sports: “He was going to start the game but we had a disciplinary issue. We have drawn the line and we move on.

“We’ll keep that internally. We have a process that we have to respect for every game and that’s it.

“It’s a decision after evaluating everything and what Auba has done and that’s it… there are lots of players willing to play and deserve a chance so I’m comfortable with that.”

The decision to drop the captain will surprise Arsenal fans ahead of arguably their most important match of the season.

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s top scorer this season with 14 goals

Arteta’s response doesn’t give any clear indication as to what the forward did to be dropped but Freddie Ljungberg has a theory.

The former Arsenal star told Sky Sports: “It’s a weird one, it upsets your team a little bit.

“The only thing I can think is that maybe he’s been late or something. He’s still on the bench so it can’t be that bad. Of course it upsets the players.

“It’s not good for Arsenal and it must be something big to leave him out.”

Arteta is understood to have dropped Aubameyang for being late

It seems Ljungberg is spot on with The Athletic revealing that Aubameyang was dropped as he was late.

The Athletic adds this isn’t the first time Aubameyang has reported late this season and Arteta took the decision to drop him to the bench as punishment.
